Most contact requests are asking one of these questions:
The product is out of stock, are you still making them?
Yes, I make them on the weekends and usually add stock to the website on Tuesday mornings.
Can I get on the waiting list?
I’ve tried to maintain a waiting list in the past but I’ve had to abandon it, sorry for the inconvenience. Roughly half of people on the list don’t respond when I email them that their parts are ready, and it can really bog things down.
Can I pre-pay?
I’m trying to get away from this as well, sorry. I do my best to provide an accurate shipping date and I respect anyone’s wish to cancel their order before I ship it, but I do still pay transaction fees for both your payment and my refund payment. Cancellations happen most often when I’ve accepted a pre-payment for parts.
Any advantage for soft-top owners?
Many ST owners have tried them, the feedback has been reduced wind noise with the roof and windows up. The RF has the real wind buffeting issue, and RF owners report the best sound improvement when driving with top/windows down.
How well do they work?
The testing I performed with this part version is that I strapped a $40 sound meter to the passenger seat of my RF, at about chest height, and performed a dB measurement with top and windows down, at 60mph, with and without the deflectors. The results were that I recorded 85dB without the deflectors, and 80dB with them. So what does that mean? Decibels are a logarithmic scale, and 3dB corresponds to a doubling of sound pressure, but not necessarily a doubling of perceived volume. The perception of volume depends primarily on the age of your ears and the frequency of the sound, but generally 10dB is where people perceive that volume has doubled. Anecdotally, what these really do is reduce that loud flag-flapping noise that you hear over your shoulder in the RF, and the general cabin wind noise you hear in the ST.
Do they fit the NA/NB/NC?
NA/NB, I don’t know. NC, the curvature of the glass is correct, but the deflectors don’t fill the quarter window, and they look a little undersized. A few people have tried them and report some improvement in wind noise, but I haven’t tried it personally.
Can I get the coated version you used to sell?
The clear coat looks nice, but it significantly limits the volume I can produce, and I’ve had to stop making them that way. You can use SprayMax 3680065 if you want to coat them yourself, just be careful to not wipe the parts with isopropyl alcohol before coating them.
How strong is the tape?
The tape is quite strong when the instructions are followed. Clean the window with isopropyl alcohol, let it dry, and apply the parts when you expect 70f+ temperatures for 48 hours afterwards. Evenly apply good pressure to both sides of the glass for 30 seconds or so when you first install them. Be careful not to wipe the wind deflectors with isopropyl alcohol, I’ve had a few cases where the acrylic develops small cracks and I believe this is due to IPA exposure.
I don’t want to see the back side of the part. Why don’t you include some black vinyl for inside the window?
I don’t want the liability of including something that may damage someone’s window tint, and I don’t want to raise the cost for everyone when most people don’t seem to be bothered by this.
Will it stay in place if I go through an automatic car wash?
I’m the type of guy to wash my car once a year, whether it needs it or not. I’ve only ever washed by hand, and I don’t know how well the tape will hold up to a pressure washer or physical brush. Nobody’s complained about losing a part this way.
Can I drive at track speeds with them?
Well, some people have done it, I won’t talk you out of it but I can’t recommend it either. Personally I’ve never driven over 75mph with them.
Can you ship to my country?
Probably. I’ve sent sets to Canada, Australia, UK, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, and a few others. If USPS lets me print a label, I’ll send it to you.
Why can’t I use ApplePay / Klarna / etc.?
All payment methods come with fees that the seller pays, and some services have fees that are significantly higher than others. Rather than raise the price for everyone, I try to keep the options limited to payment methods that most people have, and that charge lower fees.
